Archive for August, 2008

I found the following draft in my WordPress drafts folder but I never ended up publishing it. Still rings true today as much as then which wasn’t that long ago anyway.

Ah, the week of Thanksgiving! A 3 day week with many folks out of the office (Thankfully), many meetings cancelled and ironically, a chance to do real work.
I guess they are all related especially in Corporate America 2007. Perhaps its always been that way but it is certainly true today and will be as long as people need “management”. I don’t mean leadership , that is a different in my opinion but management in the form of “you will do this, and you will do it this way”

You would expect Technology Development groups to operate against the grain but then again, they don’t as being part of an organization they can’t help but being negatively influenced by the inertia, politicing and pettiness that afflicts the non Tech parts.

There is NO process known to mankind that can fully redress human nature especially the most aberrant manifestations normally found in large organizations. Mind you, many large organizations are successful in spite of themselves. Size itself can be a benefit in many ways including but not limited to being able to outlast a smaller competitor, political connections that drive business to them, the perception (and reality) that they will be around in the long ter.

There is a process or series of processes under the Agile umbrella that at least can make the technical part of the organization more resembling the better parts of small organizations.
I will write more about that in the near future.

Well, Key Biscayne Florida came and went, the suspense around Obama’s Vice Presidential selection is over and the last of the big 3 Summer long weekends is just around the corner and the first year of crop harvest at the Miyares Farm Miyares Farm Corn is coming to an end as we now move headlong into the long dark cold days of winter. Winter is long in Columbia County, New York
Overall life is good and moves along.

Chance to write a post categorized as Key Biscayne. It’s a yearly ritual during some part of August to come down to “Little Havana” and partake of the sun and beach. This year, surrounded by lots of “little folks” all making due in our condo near the warm Atlantic Ocean.
The long promised Starbucks finally opened though given the number of people I see durng my treks, I would not be surprised to see it on the “close” list in the near future.

Work is a distant memory now 5 days out of the last day in the office. The first few days it’s as though I had never left but now, who cares at least until the first day back.
The chaos I left behind will be there when I get back so nothing lost.

Fooling around with GeoPress which is a mapping utility that works with WordPress. Writing this from Columbia County and am testing the ability to easily insert maps and geocoding including ability to syndicate via GeoRSS.

If you zoom in from the satellite view , you may be able to just make out the crops that are growing and being eaten rom the Miyares Farm. Pictures will follow as I get around to it. Over the last two nights, have eaten seasoned corn rice with chives and a healthy dose of salad. All but the rice grown organically at the Miyares Farm. Blueberry pancakes and of course the Blueberries from the Farm. That took some doing as at the beginning, just as soon as the berries were ripe for the pickings, the next morning we would discover them eaten. We had to put netting around the bushes to prevent our friends from picking them dry.

Been a while since I have bothered to post anything. “All work and no Play”, have not even bothered to twitter for days.

The following link is my Music Profile page on AOL Music. Why would anyone care? Well, at least the Search engine spiders do and therefore increase the body of data indexed about Your’s truly for posterity.

Actually it is part of the “Work” as I lead a great team of Technologists that make the Web at least from the 3rd or 4th biggest Web property on Earth.

Staying Number #1 as we are in many domains including Music is a tough never ending struggle though admittedly fun and interesting.
