Budding skyline of Miami

Originally uploaded by julio.miyares

A sliver of the Downtown Miami, Florida skyline. Pay particular attention to the cranes. This skyline has risen like summer weeds. Last year when I was here, many of the building were just cleared sites. No doubt has taken on a boom/bust cycle where we are currently in the bust portion. Many of the units in these still un-finished buildings (predominantly condos) had folks putting down a deposit with no intention other then a quick profit by flipping it in anticipation of constantly increasing prices. Now that prices are on a downward slope, these “flippers” either ante up a full purchase price or walk away and lose whatever deposit they may have made.

Tomorrow I return to another boom town but without the Bust – New York City.

serene setting

Oh, what a view! Looking towards Downtown Miami from the beach in Key Biscayne.
Of course, no view of Hummers and other overly large SUVs in this photo.
Florida, and Miami in particular haven’t yet gotten the memo of $3+ gas prices and Global warming. Too busy dealing with foreclosures and the
effects of the housing bust which is very pronounced in Florida and in Miami where speculation on new condo construction became a sport.

Just to prove that the last post was not a lark , here is the editor of Julio Miyares Musings high above at the top of an undisclosed Skycraper still official under construction in Midtown Manhattan, New York Ciy.

This now completes my official public infatuation with tall New York City buildings. For the next two weeks will be reporting from Sunny Key Biscayne, Florida.

A hurricane is forming and one of the possible tracks is towards this area but still too early to tell. Should know by Friday. You may see me reporting from the eye of a hurricane like those silly News Weathermen. Lets see…

High above Manhattan in an undisclosed Skyscraper currently in the finishing touches of construction , the editor of this blog takes a photo of his other favorite construction project in the City of New York; the Bank of America Tower. This was taken from the rooftop. I got there a few months after my favorite trade The Ironworkers were complete with their tasks but I guess you can’t have it all.

Tomorrow I leave for Key Biscayne Florida. Watch for exciting reports on a periodic basis from Sunny Southern Flodida

Naked Cowboy in the City

What a way to make a living! I have run across the Naked Cowboy various times in my walks through Times Square but this is the first time I have bothered to snap a photo. I can’t even remember if he can sing. I suspect it doesn’t matter. He always has a bunch of tourist gawking though in this photo he appears somewhat “lonely”.
