Captured a set of photos today of my favorite all-time union – the Ironworkers. Here you see at least two of them on a beam of the new Bank of America building rising on 42nd Street and 6th Avenue in New York City. The current height of the super structure is at about 900 feet. I seem to be one of the few people interested in this stuff as thousands of folks walk by me without stopping to look while I spend quite a bit of time looking up watching this spectacle high up above Midtown Manhattan.

Farm on Route 82

On a sunny summer afternoon, took this rustic photo of a large farm on Route 82 on the road to Hudson, New York.

Most of the route to Hudson , New York from the Miyares Farm is full of these types of vistages. Makes for a trip that feels I am going through a bygone era of family farms and a place where not much changes over time.

2 cranes for 1 world Trade Center

Originally uploaded by julio.miyares

Took a quick trip Downtown today to walk around and observe the construction activity in Downtown Manhattan. Invariably that means a trip to the World Trade Center “hole in the ground” to see what is “shaking” in what is probably one of the most densely populated construction sites in the world. As usual, I was slightly disappointed. Not because there isn’t much to observe but because they make it so difficult to actually get a view of anything. There are still lots of tourists and gawkers converging on the site with digital cameras in tow peering through a rip in the canvas on the fences encircling the entire 16+ acre construction site.
Anyway, I did take this picture of what I believe are the two kangaroo cranes that will rise with the 1,776 Foot tall 1 World Trade Center building which will be the focal point and the tallest of the major skyscrapers that are in various stages of construction on the site. Currently the steel frame is still below grade but soon it will visible allowing me to observe my favorite trade union (the ironworkers) perched higher and higher putting together the steel skeleton as an erecter set.

West towards the Catskills

Looking west towards the Catskill Mountains on the way back from Hudson, New York one lazy Saturday summer afternoon.

The city slickers have been flocking up here for the 4th of July holidays. SUVs galore but this site and the road leading to it are off the “beaten path” .
