Springtime in New York. Here a view in Bryant Park during lunchtime and a link to my photo collection that will grow over the next month and a half.
Springtime in New York by Julio Miyares I will be keeping this post very short to enjoy the scenery.

Umberto’s circa 2007Visited Umberto’s Pizzaria this past Saturday on the way back from Islip, New York and an all-day Karate event.
I grew up not far from here and the normal course of events was to collect a house or two on my paper route and then cycle over to Jericho Turnpike with friends to spend an afternoon or at least part of it eating pizza, shooting the breeze, setting up the salt so it would spill on the next unsuspecting customer.
The Umberto’s of today is a far cry from the one my friends and I frequented. It has expanded at least 3 times and now has an informal dining area as well as a supper club for the rarified parts of New Hyde Park middle-classdom.
The pizza hasn’t changed a lick and is probably still the best in New York and points far in all directions.
They have stayed consistent to the original recipe and did not stray during the Ray’s Pizza globs of Cheese craze which started in the mid ’80 and continues today. Pineapple Pizza? Well I guess they will pepper it with Pineapple if you ask but no one is silly enough to.

Stretching it out
What a way to spend a Saturday! In a gym on Long Island , Islip to be exact which is in Suffolk County far away from my beloved Columbia County , New York. Long Island is famous for people having cars that are bigger then their houses but that is another story.
Aerial View of GymMy son was competing in the “Competition of Champions”. For a young lad, he is already a black belt. Most of the people (kids and adults alike) were brown or black belts making its a serious affair and not a family outing as some of these more open events tend to be. Since his mom is frantically paranoid about the internet, a picture of the good looking chip off the old block is not presented here less some “prevert” (sic) may come preying.
The day was lots of fun watching and listening to guffaws, grunts , screams, yells and a few tears. There was very aggressive sparring which makes it entertaining and my son did quite well but sadly did not leave with any prizes.

I met up with Dossy Shiobara in New York City this week (shown here posing in front of Radio City Music Hall in standard tee-shirt garb). I hadn’t seen him in months since he left his position as Super-developer at AOL. With trepidation , not knowing if had started going bald or maintained his ripped physique or what I would see after 6 month hiatus, I setup a lunch appointment in the City to catch up.
Well here he is looking better then ever and in excellent spirits. Obviously doesn’t have the combined weight of approximately 5 layers of managers telling what to do on his shoulders.

He was happy to pose and fine with me blogging around something as trivial as a lunch date. You see, Dossy is good SEO regardless of the content. Dossy is the CONTENT!

Anyway, you can go to his blog and see all his delicious links or sprinkled between them read up on what he has been up to in the past half a year.

A work in process from well known Cuban artist Maria Victoria currently based in Columbia County, New York. Maria Victoria has recently taken up rug making and can be frequently seen in her Columbia County Gallery near Hudson, New York tearing apart cloth from old jeans, shirts etc and weaving them into these works of art.

The concentration necessary to practice this craft can not be broken even when consuming 2 or 3 martinis (her favorite drink).

Maria Victoria is a woman of many talents, she is also owner of “Artistic Cleanings” , a cleaning service with an artistic touch. There is more to cleaning then just picking up the dust.

For your info, Sometime early in April 2007, at Hawthorne Farm, Ms Bernard will be showing off her handiwork at a exposition of Columbia County, New York artists.

Somewhat grainy video of my brother playing with the “Devil Dogs” (in Los Angeles). Not his band but he is friends with the guitarist/singer. Alberto is the bass player, somewhat scary looking bearded individual on the left hand side of the video. Shows that you can still have fun even at the ripe old age that he is at even if the music isn’t all that good in this case. I have been learning guitar myself over the past year and a half as a diversion from all the usual Work related nonsense and hope to go public soon. Anyone looking for a guitarist, please reach out to me.
