The City that never Sleeps

Originally uploaded by julio.miyares.

I took this photo while lounging around the Time Life Building plaza late on a hot summer Wednesday night in New York City. Had just come back from having dinner with super AOL ADP developer Nate Folkman at Moda restaurant in Midtown Manhattan. A street artist performing on the plaza had caught my attention. Mind you though I am currently based in Dulles, VA I am originally from New York. By 9:30pm on a typical Dulles evening during the week, you are already getting the subtle signs to wrap it up and pay the check and by 10pm its all over.

Brings to mind a post by World Renowned blogger Dossy Shiobara on why it was not likely that the New York area could compete with Silicon Valley in the world of leading edge Technical development. I say that just the fact you can get a Gyro from a Street vendor at any hour of the night is sufficient attraction for the type of individuals that make up a critical mind share of a Silicon Valley.

Holmquest Farm

One of the advantages I will have of running my own business is a choice of where to spend the majority of my time either working or relaxing. Here is a picture of the approach to Holmquest Farm in Columbia County, NY not far from my New York home. Though I am currently based in Reston, Virginia, I plan on spending more time up north. Columbia County is quickly turning into a hot-bed of horse and organic farming establishments. It lies approximately 120 north of Times Square New York which makes it far enough to avoid the over development characteristic of the nearby suburbs. The fact it is brutally cold in the winter with much snow doesn’t help either. I would add links to various places with good web sites but alas the business establishments in Columbia County are quite backwards in terms of using the Web for anything. This is a true argicultural community irrespective of the influx of City folks into the Hudson City environs. I do expect this to change over the course of the next 5 years as more marketing savey business people tap into the pent-up demand not just for tourists looking for a quick get-away to relax from the grind of New York City but also looking for some of the advantages of “home” grown produce.

Its getting close! The big moment. The moment I have been waiting for who knows how long! Going off on my own , taking the plunge, not having to work for some idiot or bunch of idiots, instead working for this idiot (me).

Of course the initiative will center around technology at least from my prespective and Social Networking and Web 2.0 in particular though for the hell of it , I am calling it Web 3.0 for now as the preceding terms have become ? at this point.

The company is product driven as I am going in partnership with one of the best Product Managers if not the best I have ever worked with. I would be the CTO of the company which shows you what’s in a title.
Without revealing anything; not that it matters as no one but me reads my blog , the product beta is set for October 30, 2006 in time for the Christmas season. All will be revealed soon! Hopefully some of you will be receiving beta invitations. Just send an email to me through this blog if you wish to be included.

Much excitement in the air around the idea and its practical and non-practical uses.

The following is the link to the company site. Not yet formally established but hopefully soon if I can get my partner and friend to move on that front. Perhaps I should just do it on my own.

The bottom line is the difficulty in getting your “own thing” started is getting it started especially when you are collaborating with someone. Its seems that inertia is cumulative and instead of moving quicker with the more people you have, the harder it is to gain momemtum. I guess that is naturally understood by anyone that has worked in a bloated bureacracy as I have but I did not expect that in an enterprise of two individuals.

Well, bottom line is I’m in it now either in a group or by myself. My days working for “the man” are over and if that is not exactly how the future ends up , I can just come back here and delete this post and leave no evidence of my hubris.

We do not provide troubleshooting for 3rd party scripts or code. However
if you have any questions directly about a specific system setting we’ll
be able to answer about that. You can also get many common questions
answered quickly in our wiki:

Hello

Appears that the only way I can post is by logging into the Admin
account even though set up two admin enabled users julio and john @
jittr.com.

Furthermore, since I did not save the automatically generated admin
password, I can’t even get the retrieve password to work because the
wordpress doesnt recognize anything as being in the database as a
valid user.

Help!

Thanks
Julio
